Zak is a lovely 6 year old lurcher who has been returned from his home of 4 years due to a change on family circumstances. He is a lovely boy who desperately misses not being in a home. He can be a little shy with strangers but is very loving once he gets to know you.

Taz is a little lurcher girl who has had a bad time in her past. She is extremely loving and funny but can be a bit nervous of anyone she doesn't know touching her collar. Once she gets to know you her lovely loving personality overcomes her fears and she likes nothing better than to be able to follow you around all day. Taz is stock friendly and gets on with all other dogs, she is about six years old.

Teddy is a lovely natured 4 year old boy who has just retired from racing. He is very loving and likes nothing better than a long cuddle. Gets on well with the other dogs and just likes everybody and everything.

Abbey is a whippet / greyhound lurcher around 10 years old. She is used to living in a home with Taz and is housetrained She is a quite unassuming little girl who has lots and lots of love to give and will happily spend all day cuddling, she is good on and off lead and is very keen to please. Abbey is looking for quite home without young children where someone is around for the greater part of the day. She could be an only dog or would live happily with others although can be a little nervous if first introduction. Abbey is stock friendly.

Malcolm is a beautiful young saluki x boy who is currently in foster in the Lancashire area. Malcolm is also available for rehoming through Greyhound Gap.. If you would like to see Malcolm's thread on Greyhound Gap's website follow this link http://www.greyhoundgap.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Gap&thread=53546&page=1#628718

Malcolm is a charming chap with a 1001 good qualities but is also quite a complex little dog so will need a very savy, dedicated home with people who are fair but also quite firm. If given an inch Malcolm will take the proverbial mile.

Malcolm is fabulous with other dogs and is living with cats, however, the cats he lives with do stand their ground and will not take any nonsence, timid cats or cats that run we feel would open up a whole new game for him.

Offlead Malcolm has wonderful recall, you can turn him on a sixpence 99 per cant of the time but he can get very intent on the chase so more work needs to be done here. Likewise when he is offlead if he does run over to other dogs his play mannerism is very much that of a bull in a china shop and he will often broad side them heavily which does not necessarily go down well with other dogs and their owners. If you can stop him before he gets to close one call is usually enough to break it and bring him back.

Malcolms other problem is being left. He was originally rehomed by Greenfield but came back for being vocal and destructive. Emma who has fostered him has done sterling work with this boy and he is now confident to be left for a couple of hours at a time but is crated and surrounded by other dogs and we feel Malcolm really does need to go into a *pack* as opposed to one of just a couple of dogs, he gains his confidence being left from numbers.

Malcolm has started to attend obidience and agility lessons and is a natural at both, he loves to please and we feel a home where someone did do something worky with their dogs instead of just run them physically would be best for Malcolm as he is a dog that needs a job.

Malcome is vaccinated, de flead, de wormed, microchipped and neutered.

This is what Malcolm's foster mum Emma has to say about him.

Oh my - I luffs this lad I really do - when I saw him up on the homing page I had a bit of a lump in my throat eventhough I knew it was happening!

Lisa has summed Malc up really well - he is a cracking dog that wants to please all the time but he does worry if he thinks he is getting things wrong. When he first arrived I thought that he was a bit dim but he would just shut down when he wasn't sure of what you wanted him to do. Now he is settled in he works like a dream and picks things up very quickly.

Up until last week he rarely put a foot wrong when we were out and about - this week he has decided he is feeling confident in his home/surroundings and is pushing the boundaries a bit to see what will happen He failed to recall this morning because he thought he knew where a bunny had gone (although to be fair to him he didn't go more than 10 meters away from me despite really really wanting to) but being put back on his lead for 5 minutes was enough of a reminder for him to mind his manners for the rest of the walk!!
Yesterday he went to Otley agility show and he was superbly behaved. He ignored all the other dogs on the exercise field (apart from the dogs I said he could play with) and stayed in a down wait while I had a long chat to a friend - there were a lot of dogs moving at speed very close to him so it was a real test of self control for Malc and he showed me just how well he has learned his lessons over the last few weeks.

We have been doing a lot of work with him on his self control to help with his dog manners and his behavior when he is left and it seems to be paying off. I can leave him for a couple of hours loose in the kitchen with the other dogs for company and he doesn't appear to move off his beanbag. It must be noted however that I only leave him for more than a few minutes if he has been out on a long run - his behavior is definitely linked to the amount of exercise he gets.
At night he is normally left loose again in the kitchen with the other dogs for company and up until the last week or so he has been good as gold (after the first week of settling in). This last week he has decided he is going to pee on the floor. The last 2 nights he has been back in his crate while this habit is stopped, and both nights he has been clean and waited for me to get him up in the morning. I'm pretty sure that another couple of nights in the crate will be enough to sort this problem.

Exercise wise he needs lots and lots of free running and then a bit more! He needs to run with a buddy that is as fast as him and is able to give him the tellings off he needs to make him control his urge to bump and nip. He doesn't mean to hurt he is just extremely boisterous because he has never had the chance to learn what is expected of him. He is already massively improved with discipline coming from both my own dogs and me. He loves to play ball and will fetch for hours and hours which is how I've done a lot of his training as it seems to be less confrontational for him.

I feel like I've written quite a lot of negative aspects relating to Malc, but he really is a loving, eager to please, stunningly handsome young man. A lot of the issues that he has have been created one way or another for him, and not by him - he deserves the chance to relearn how life can be for him. He is quite immature in his outlook so as he gets a little bit older he will settle down quicker and quicker.

For more information on Malcolm ring Caroline on 07774 600090 or Lisa on 01782 544728.

Marcus is a lovely 7 year old boy who has been returned to Greenfields because his owners have moved abroad. He has lived with children, can be left for reasonable periods and is housetrained. Marcus gets on well with other dogs but is not cat friendly

Harold has been returned to Greenfields through no fault of his own. He is a really lovely 8 yr old saluki crossd who is extremely affectionate and playful. Harold is housetrained

Rosie has just left racing kennels at the grand age of 11 and is now looking for a nice quiet home for her retirement.

Mona is a lovely three year old lurcher girl. She is very very loving and desperate to please which makes her very easy to train. Mona is looking for a home with another dog and someone about for most of the day. She is housetrained. She has this strange little mohican on top of her head that makes her look very cheeky

Raymond is a lovely quiet 4 year old boy who gets on well with everybody on the yard and would love a sofa of his own

Gem is now living with one of our fosters and this is what they say about her.

We are currently fostering this very special little girl. Gem is 5 years old and is finding it difficult to be rehomed. We cannot imagine what trauma she has been through in her racing life. She has a large indent in her forehead which we believe was caused by a shovel and is covered in scars. She is terrified of loud noises and shouting and very scared of strangers . She will hide in her safe place under our bed or in my wardrobe if any loud noises on the television scare her or any male visitors call. She is in desperate need of a special caring gentle person to give her the love she so rightly needs. We have worked hard with Gem over the last few months to gain her trust and she is rapidly beginning to love life and being with us. She is house trained apart from the odd accident when she gets scared and is very very loving. She now is beginning to understand words and will come when you call her name. She is fantastic with all other dogs and is very playful.

Gem will need a home with another dog as a companion as she needs this security and someone will be around most of the all time. she is at her happiest when lying on the settee with you having her belly rubbed and has so much to offer to the right person .

Rebecca is a real girlie greyhound full of love and fun. This cheeky madam will make someone a lovely companion. Rebecca is just 3 years old

BEATTIE is 6yrs old and has sadly come back into our care after being in a loving home for 3yrs due to her owner's ill health. Beattie was a much-loved princess and kept in immaculate condition and is now grieving over the loss of her home. Can you light up her life? She is not good with cats or small dogs.

Rose is our senior lady,8yrs old. She is very sweet natured and good with small dogs.

BUDDY is 6yrs old & has been with us since March. He gets overlooked because, while he is a fabulous house pet and brilliant with children, he sadly cannot be walked without a muzzle as he thinks anything with four legs is meant to be chased. Retiring after running over 170 races he wants and deserves a home he can call his own.

Billy is 3 yrs old and a lovely happy chappie. He loves cuddles and loves to play with his toys. He would love to be a second dog, but wouldn't mind either being a only child, as he loves to be spoilt.

Recently rehomed and no longer available:

Tyler REHOMEDis a lovely affectionate 4 year old boy who does not have a lot of confidence with strangers. He would love a home of his own preferably with another dog who could show him the ropes.

REHOMED Our beautiful quiet bear of a boy Simba. He is a lovely gentle giant who just wants kisses and cuddles. He is 3 years old

Clarkie REHOMED is a big loveable teddy bear of a dog. He has the sweetest personality and everybody here loves him to bits. He is 4 years old and would like a home where he could run around and play with his toys all day

Brodie REHOMED has just retired from racing at the age of 5. He is a very good natured dog who gets on well with all the others. He is a little nervous at the moment but growing in confidence everyday.

Barney REHOMED is approx 10 months old, and is a playful healthy puppy. Barney needs some training to guide him, and plenty of exercise. He is totally cat safe, and good with small dogs.

He will be a loving pet for someone who has the time to train him. He is in a foster home and is house trained. He has good recall.

Barney would be best suited to someone who is home most of the day, as after all he is just a young lurcher puppy

Smokey REHOMED is 4 years old. He is good with children and other medium and large dogs. He is not cat friendly

Master Ted Adera REHOMED (known to his friends as Nobby) is a 3 year old bundle of gorgeousness. This boy does not have a bad bone in his body and is currently enjoying a second puppyhood. Nobby's favourite things are toys, food, toys again and lastly more toys. He is well behaved in the house (although liable to put most moveable things in his mouth if he can. He is housetrained and can be left for short periods.

Young Davey REHOMED is only a baby at 22 months old. He has never raced and just loves to play and run with the other dogs. Davey is looking for a home where someone is around most of the time and would much prefer a home with another dog for company.

Davy is cat friendly

Clarissa REHOMED a a beautiful quiet 5 year old girl who is really ready for her own sofa and a warm fire. This little girl is so good we don't know we've got her. A real delight to be around

The one and only Sonny REHOMED. This boy is so well behaved and even comes when called (unusual for a greyhound). He is one of the most loving dogs on the yard and is desperate for a home of his own. Sonny is 5 years old and is not small dog friendly.

Paddy REHOMED is a beautiful quite 5 year old boy who has had enough of racing and would dearly like a retirement home. He is a lovely friendly boy who gets on well with everyone on the yard.

Cyril REHOMED (or Cyril the squirrel as he's known on the yard) is a truly gorgeous five year old boy who has so much love to give. When his tail wags it goes all the way around just like helicopter rotor.

Flash REHOMED is 5yrs old and an absolutely adorable hound! He is a little nervous as yet, possibly been treated roughly in his past. Despite this he is very 'cuddly', leaning against you at every opportunity begging for a fuss. He sits very nicely, unusual for a greyhound, and puts his paw on your knee for his chin to be tickled. Once he has achieved this his habit is to slide down to the floor for his tummy tickled.
It is early days yet, having only been with us 2 weeks, but the indications are that he will be good with other breeds. He is curious but shows no signs of aggression when he sees other dogs. He hasn't been thoroughly cat-tested but my neighbour has 3 and he doesnt seem very concerned, however that may just be because he hasn't got his confidence yet?

Rosemary REHOMED is a tiny delicate little girl of two. She lacks confidence at the moment and finds new thing quite scary but she is making good progress and will make a lovely pet with a fun personality.

Henry REHOMED is a lovable roque of a chap who will be 3 on Christmas Day. He loves giving cuddles and receiving them and just wants to be loved. Henry can be excitable around small dogs

Tottie REHOMED is 5yrs old,a shy soul, not cat-safe, would make an ideal companion. Best suited to a quiet home.

Arthur REHOMED is a very special 6 year old boy who is going blind. He is a very happy bouncy bid boy who make the most of life and loves everybody and everything.

We do not know how long it will be before he loses his sight completely but would like to get him into a permanent home while he still has some sight.

At the moment Arthur is in foster care in the Staffordshire area and is coping well with living in a house.

Cedric REHOMED would like any potential adoptors to know that they must have an extensive toy collection if they are thinking of adopting him

Gilbert REHOMED is only 18 months old and absolutely terrified of everything, we cannot begin to imagine what this poor boy has gone through. At the moment he does not like to much human contact and will sink to the floor cowering and shaking if anyone tries to force attention on him. He is happy with the other dogs and like to play in the yard. At the moment we are avoiding any eye contact with him and getting the other dogs to do what we want him to do in the hope he will copy them. This seems to be working and obviously Gilbert needs to spend more time here to help him adjust. When he has made more progress Gilbert would best be suited to home with another dog, preferably a bitch.

Soldier REHOMED is a big stunning gentle giant who just like to sit around and watch the world go by. He loves food and walks so it is easy to win his heart. He is 6 years old.

Puma REHOMED is a lovely lovely big teddy bear of a boy who loves everybody and everything. He is 3 years old

Dezzy REHOMED is a sweet natured boy and good with other dogs. He loves everyone he meets and is good with children. Dezzy is not cat safe, but would make a great companion, or family pet, as he loves lots of cuddles

REHOMED Indy is not in Greenfields Greyhound Rescue, but due to the unusual circumstances and the fact that she needs such a special home we have decided to put her on this page:

Indiana (Indy)Edna
Harry
Thelma
Bubbles

18 month female lurcher looking for a home.

Indy is a very special dog. She was found in a coma on a field, aged about 5 months. We rehabilitated her but she started having seizures at Christmas, when she was then diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. Since starting treatment she has had no more seizures, but her mental age is that of a puppy and likely to remain so. She is also quite small, standing only 22 inches at the shoulder.
She is an incredibly affectionate dog and craves human contact, and really needs an owner who can spend the majority of the day with her. Her thyroid condition means that she doesn't require a lot of exercise, just plenty of love!
Her veterinary bills are all covered by PetPlan, with whom she is insured. We would advise that this insurance policy be continued as it covers her for life.
She is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated.
The only reason she can't stay with us is that work keeps us out long hours and she is not getting enough human contact.

Please contact Eleanor on emad2@cantab.net in the first instance. "

Ralph REHOMED is a lovely natured quiet 4 year old who gets on with all the dogs on the yard and is a delight to have around.

Alice REHOMED is only 2 years old and really likes people, when the other dogs are running and playing Alice prefers to stick close and help with any jobs we may be doing. She is very well behaved and desperate to please, also she can have the odd mad moment being such a youngster.

Bubbles REHOMED is a lovely pretty little girl who thinks that she is a princess and is looking for a suitable palace with kingdom attached where she can be given the adoration she so rightly deserves

Harry Hornblower REHOMED is A cheerful, funloving 3 year old who is loving and affectionate. He is a friendly boy who gets on well with all the other dogs on the yard.

Thelma REHOMEDis a quite little girl, a little bit nervous and reserved but loves to give kisses once she knows you. Thelma is 4 years old and really ready for her retirement sofa

Edna REHOMED is the most gorgeous little black greyhound girl. She is 5 years old but still a little giddy and lively. Nothing gets Edna down she welcomes each day with the biggest smile possible and lots of hugs for everyone

Amy REHOMED is also approx 5yrs old, not cat-safe, can be a bit nervous meeting other dogs for the first time but soon settles.

Sandy is 9 and Carla is 7. They are not small dog or cat friendly.

Harold REHOMED is a loveable 4 year old teddy bear who just loves hugs and cuddles. He is quiet placid boy who is easy to have around and walks well on a lead.

Blaze REHOMED has been reluctantly returned due to her owner's relocation. A deerhound-x,5-6yrs old,she was a working lurcher in her younger days & is therefore not cat/small animal friendly. She worked wth terriers so should get on ok with small dogs. Because of her chase instinct & ability to jump she will need a secure garden.

Tricky (Always Time) 14.12.96 - 20.04.08

Tricky had had such a bad life with little comfort or love that we were devastated to lose him. Unfortunately a tumour on his leg which we had removed when he came to us had been left to long and the cancer had spread. We were not aware of this until he collapsed on Sunday around lunchtime and we had to have him put down early
afternoon. Tricky's racing name was 'Always Time" but

I

Billy REHOMED is a 2 1/2 year old Irish Greyhound who is a real mummies boy.

He likes to spend his day having loves and cuddles and will only play with the other greyhounds if they promise to be gentle. He fell in the pond the other day and spent the next two hours crying despite being rubbed try with warm towel.

Billy would love someone of his own to cuddle.

Ethel she is about 2 years old REHOMED and a really lovely girl with the waggiest bottom in the north. Again a very easy girl who would slot into family life easily.

Milly will be 2yrs old in June this year  REHOMED.   She is a failed racer as she was not fast enough on her trials, she is very loving and bouncy.  She loves everyone and would suit most homes, ideally  as a second dog, or for someone who is home a lot, as she craves company.  She is house trained and good with other dogs but not with cats,

Tiger REHOMED is a 75% greyhound and is 2 years old.  He is good natured and friendly with all other dogs but sadly doesn't like cats.  He has good recall and loves to play,

Tiger is in the care of the R.S.P.C.A at Gonsal Farm,Shrewsbury.  If you are interested in giving Tiger a home telephone 08700 104253 and ask for Julie.

She will be able to tell you more about Tiger's story as he had come to them as a cruelty case.

George 6 years REHOMED  - George was described as very ugly by his trainer but when he arrived we thought he was lovely. He has a really nice personality and just loves people. He is very clean in his kennel so would be easy to house train
